Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 20, 2026

The short version: LocaleGuard does not collect, store, or process your customers' personal information. It works with your storefront content and its translations — not your shoppers' data.

LocaleGuard ("we", "us") is a Shopify app that checks and translates your storefront for French-language (Quebec Bill 96) compliance. This policy explains what data the app accesses, how we use it, and your choices. We built LocaleGuard in Quebec with privacy as a first-class concern (Law 25 / PIPEDA / GDPR).

1. Who this covers

Merchants who install LocaleGuard. The app has no consumer-facing component and never interacts with your shoppers.

2. What we access and store

With your authorization, Shopify grants the app access to your translatable storefront content (products, collections, pages, blog posts, store policies, theme text, and notification email templates), its existing translations and published locales, and a secure session token to call Shopify's API on your behalf.

Per store — shop-scoped and isolated from every other store — we store:

We request only the Shopify scopes we need: read_products, read_locales, read_translations, write_translations. We do NOT access or store customer names, emails, addresses, orders, carts, or payment information.

3. Content sent for translation

When you use a paid feature to translate content, the text of the fields being translated is sent to our AI translation provider to generate the French (or other-language) version, then written back to your Shopify store. This is storefront content you author — never shopper data.

4. Service providers (subprocessors)

5. Where your data is stored

LocaleGuard's servers are located in Canada (Toronto). Your app data (see §2) stays there. Your storefront content and its translations are stored by Shopify under Shopify's own infrastructure and policies.

6. Retention & deletion

We keep your app data for as long as LocaleGuard is installed. When you uninstall, Shopify sends us a shop-redaction request (shop/redact, typically 48 hours after uninstall) and we delete your store's data when we receive it. We honour Shopify's mandatory data-request and redaction webhooks (customers/data_request, customers/redact, shop/redact). Because we hold no customer personal information, customer requests have nothing to disclose; the shop-redaction request deletes your store's records.

7. Your rights

Privacy laws such as Quebec's Law 25, Canada's PIPEDA, and the EU/UK GDPR grant data-subject rights (access, correction, deletion). Because LocaleGuard holds no shopper personal information, these are handled at the merchant level: you can delete all your app data at any time by uninstalling, or contact us at support@localeguard.ca.

8. Security

Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS). Access tokens are stored securely and used only to serve your store. We follow the principle of least privilege for Shopify API scopes.

9. Changes

We may update this policy; we'll change the "last updated" date above and, for material changes, note it in the app.
